April Blog: Flowers and Bugs!

  Mangos Friends and Families Hey y'all! April was SUCH a fun month, especially since it was actually beginning to get warm outside. Like I promised, we did flowers this month and wow did we have a great time! Dramatic play was turned into the cutest flower shop where the kids got to plant and dig up flowers, make their own bouquets and work as a flower shop cashier and a florist! They took these jobs VERY seriously, and they did fantastic in this center.  Continuing with our flower theme, we learned all about the parts of a flower and explored how plants bloom and what helps them grow. The kids got a chance to deconstruct a flower and use all the different parts for art projects. We used the stems as paint brushes and they pressed the petals into their own personal keepsake container! As for the bug portion of our unit, we have some new class pets! Right now, the Mangos classroom is home to some caterpillars and ladybug larvae. The plan is to watch them grow and then release ...

March Blog: Dinosaurs!

Mango friends and families! Hey y'all! So March is over, which is super crazy to think about because it feels like it just started. So what did we do this month? A LOT. First off, remember how I said in the last blog post we were starting flowers and bugs? Well, change of plans, we did dinosaurs instead! The kids LOVED pretending to be paleontologists and dinosaurs (because yes, they were both!) We transformed our dramatic play center into a paleontology lab where the kids cleaned fossils, inspected different kids of dinosaurs and dug up "bones"! To make our dinosaur theme even more realistic, we added a volcano in the block center! It was incredible to see how much fun all the kids had learning about dinosaurs and paleontology!  Because it was March, that of course means we had to talk about St. Patricks Day! We learned about rainbows (the kids and Ms. Logan did a pretty cool rainbow science experiment), we learned about Ireland and castles and we sang about leprechauns ...
